Hive is a fast, feeless, and community-governed Layer-1 blockchain built using Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS). Originally launched as a fork of the Steem blockchain, Hive has evolved into a scalable platform optimized for Web3 applications, including social media, gaming, content monetization, and decentralized finance. It features 3-second block times, free transactions through a Resource Credits system (earned by staking HIVE), and human-readable wallet addresses that double as usernames. A unique component of Hive is the Decentralized Hive Fund (DHF), a community treasury that uses stake-weighted governance to fund open-source development, dApps, and ecosystem growth. Hive also supports Hive Backed Dollars (HBD), an algorithmically issued USD-pegged stablecoin backed by HIVE and governed by witness consensus. Its robust ecosystem includes second-layer dApps such as PeakD, Splinterlands, and Ecency, while developers benefit from extensive APIs, SDKs, and modular Layer-2 tools. With support from both centralized and decentralized exchanges, multiple open-source wallets, and ongoing improvements driven by its active governance model, Hive positions itself as a highly accessible and self-sustaining blockchain infrastructure for next-generation internet communities.
Hive is a Layer-1 blockchain that offers feeless transactions, fast 3-second block times, and a community-led governance system. It supports a broad Web3 ecosystem including social media, gaming, and DeFi.
HBD stands for Hive Backed Dollars, a stablecoin pegged to the US dollar and backed by HIVE. It's issued algorithmically and offers interest rates determined by Hive’s validator network.
Hive uses a Resource Credits system instead of transaction fees. Users stake HIVE to gain RCs, which are consumed when interacting with the blockchain and regenerate over time.
Governance is managed through the Decentralized Hive Fund (DHF) and witness voting. Stakeholders vote on funding proposals and elect the top 20 block producers (witnesses).
Popular wallets include Hive Keychain (browser extension), Ecency (mobile/web), PeakD, HiveWallet, Vessel, and Hive.Blog. Ledger hardware wallet integration is also available.
HIVE is available on major exchanges like Binance, Gate.io, Upbit, DigiFinex, and XT.COM.
